Electricity in Mont Belvieu, Texas

by Donny on December 22, 2010

Located just east of Houston off Interstate 10, Mont Belvieu, Texas is rapidly growing.

Its population is nearly 25,000.

Its first settler was a rancher named Amos Barber who built his home in 1849, and the area flourished after that, and later residents decided to name the town “Barbers Hill” after him.

In 1890, the name was changed to Mont Belvieu because other towns had names similar to Barbers Hill, but the name Barbers Hill stuck with the high school, and it remains to this day.

Between the years 1901 and 1916, the hill had been drilled several times for oil, and in 1918 the Goose Creek and Dayton Railroad was finished and went right through Mont Belvieu.

Several oil refineries are found in and around the town, making it a tremendous source of some of the cheapest energy, and local businesses and residents can take full advantage of the fact that it’s a deregulated area.

Before the electricity deregulation, citizens of the area had no choice but to go with CenterPoint Energy as their only energy provider. However, if you live or work in Mont Belvieu and are in the market for electricity, you have the right and the ability to shop, compare and choose the rates that work best for you.
