Reliant teams up with Cowboys, Texans for charity

Reliant Energy is set to sponsor “Smarter Home on Wheels” to demonstrate how to wisely use electricity without racking up a high energy bill.

The event will be held at the Bay Day Festival June 9 at the Kemah Boardwalk in Kemah, Texas.

Artist Boat, Baytown Nature Center, Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Gulf Coast Bird Observatory, Pew Environmental Group, Stranding Network, Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will all have an educational booth.

The Houston Texans cheerleaders and Mascot, Toro, will also attend the free event.

Reliant Energy prides itself in being more than an average energy company. Company representatives like to do things in the community and to sponsor different events.

In fact just recently it sponsored an even where current and former Dallas Cowboys stepped into the batting cages to raise $40,000 for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. Cowboys Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman, who is a spokesman for Reliant also took a few swings himself.

Cowboys’ current tight end John Phillips won the contest but says he’s no stranger to the America’s pastime.

“I played in high school, a little bit of Legion and stuff,” Phillips said. “I always had a passion for baseball. I like playing it. It was good to get out and take some cuts again.”
