Does energy make the Windy City windier?

by Donny on March 2, 2012

We all know Chicago has been nicknamed “The Windy City,” but how many of us know why? It’s more than the wind coming off Lake Michigan. It also has something to do with the World’s Fair, and its rivalry with Cincinnati, Ohio.

When you think of it, it’s pretty fitting, and another factor you can throw in is the fact Chicago is deregulated. This means Chicago citizens who are looking for a new electricity provider for their commercial businesses can shop and compare multiple energy rates before signing up with whichever deal bets fits their situation.

Deregulation does two things in the Windy city: 1) it opens gives electricity customers the right and the ability to make a sound decision as to which energy companies to choose, and 2) opens up competition among the providers which may ultimately cause more rivalries.

It’s up to the government to decide who services regulated areas, so one giant monopoly company might service the west while another services the east. However, in Chicago you can sign up with Capital Electric instead of Bright Electrical Supply Co or vice versa but the choice is yours.

If you’re living in Chicago or another deregulated area, you can start shopping for the best energy provider and its rates now. Just type your zip code into our compare box on the compare page or the home page and follow instructions.
