TXU is teaming up with the Dallas Film Society in efforts to launch the Third Annual 2012 Student Film Contest. Students competing in the competition are asked to make a 3-5 minute video about the future of energy. The video can be a comedy, drama, music video or even a horror/sci-fi film.
Winners for the 2012 competition will be awarded a total of $7,500 for the grand prizes. As for the high school and college categories, first place winners will receive a prize of $5,000 and second prize will win $2,500. Runner ups and finalists will receive $400 worth of free video editing software. Competing students are asked to post their submissions before February 10, 2012 by going to www.txu.com/studentfilmcontest or submit it by mail.
Public online voting will open February 20, 2012 and will through March 23, 2012. The voters will be asked to score each video based on originality, creativity, thought provoking perspectives, providing problem solution stories, information and entertainment.
Five high school finalists and five college finalists will be honored at the red carpet walk with the other finalists on April 21, 2012 as they will see all the finalists’ films and hear the winner’s name announced.
Last year saw nearly 40,000 votes for more than 50 entries as they competed to win $30,000 in cash and grants.
