How to sign up for the cheapest electricity rates in New Jersey

by Donny on November 30, 2010

New Jersey was one of the many states to have recently experienced the energy deregulation law.

The deregulation has made the electric market more competitive and it also gives consumers a chance to hand pick what energy companies and prices work best for them.

Because the market is so wide open, Cheapest Electricity can become a one-stop shop. There’s no need to jump from site to site when you can shop, compare, and view the rates and companies here.

There are a few things to look out for when purchasing electricity. It’s not something you want to jump into too quickly.

First, make sure it’s a fixed rate. A variable rate could change after the first month. Once you’ve signed up with a certain electric provider, the rates won’t change during your contract.

It’s always a good idea to pick a good length of time. It’s typically cheaper to go sign up for longer periods of time, but that’s not always the case.

It requires more commitment, and sometimes energy companies will just try to dig through your wallet, so be careful you don’t sign up for a deal that’s too short or too long.

On that note, make sure to check with your electricity company about late fees, and termination fees. If you cancel before your contract is over, will you get fined for it? If so, how much?

Also, if you fail to sign up for a good deal, you might miss it entirely. Make sure to get them when they’re hot.

These are just a few things to keep in mind. You can compare rates here by typing your zip code into the compare box and see what deals are offered near you.
